FAQs
How much are the fees?
Fees are $275 for non-flag and $225 for Flag. $50 is expected at registration (non-refundable after Apr 1), but the remainder can be paid over a couple months on a payment plan. Portions of this fee are non-refundable as we get closer to equipment handout (details are available when registering). What if I’m having difficulty with the costs?
If you are having difficulty with affording the registration fees, please reach out to the registrar and treasurer to discuss your situation. There are many local programs in your township as well as funds available to help offset the fees.
Our goal is for every child to have the opportunity to compete and get the chance to experience being part of the Chargers Family.
How do I know if I am registering for the correct team?
If your player attends or attended one of the following Commerce Chargers feeder schools, you are in the right place.
Mary Helen Guest Elementary
Oakley Park Elementary
Pleasant Lake Elementary
Meadowbrook Elementary School
Walnut Creek Middle School (Shared)
If you are out of district, can’t find a team in Walled Lake, or any other questions about registering, please reach out to registrar@commercechargers.org. We believe every child should have the opportunity to play and we want to help you find the right place for your player and family.
What level will my child play on?
Level is determined by the players grade for the season you are registering for. You will enroll your player in the level that corresponds with the grade that they are going to be in for the upcoming season.
Flag: 1st and 2nd graders
Freshman (tackle): 3rd and 4th graders
Junior Varsity (tackle): 5th and 6th graders
Varsity (tackle): 7th and 8th graders
I heard about raffle tickets. What are those?
Every year Commerce Chargers host a raffle with a cash prize starting at $1,000 for first place, $500 for second, and $250 for third. We require each player to sell 35 tickets at $5 each ($175 total for each player).
How long do I have to sell?
You will have from Meet & Greet until the homecoming game to sell the tickets.
Do I have to sell them?
This is required and not optional for all players. Some families opt to simply purchase them without selling them to friends and family. This is an option as well.
Is there alternative option to selling raffle tickets?
Another option is to find a sponsor for your child. If you can secure a sponsor for the Chargers for at least $300, then the raffle ticket sales is waived. This must be turned in by July 1st to be eligible. Please contact the fundraising committee for details.
When are the games?
The games typically start at the end of August and go until mid October on either a Saturday or a Sunday. Play-offs and Super Bowl are scheduled after the regular season is over. Official days are generally not known until May.

This will change during homecoming and other special times like U of M Game and Hero’s Game. You will be given plenty of notice!

Can I meet the coaches?
Absolutely! You’ll be able to see profiles shortly. Head Coaches for football are already identified and are hard at work. We are very excited about the upcoming year. You will also get a chance to spend time with them during our Meet & Greet hosted in May. Please come and meet the coaches and talk with the board volunteers. If you are interested in coaching, please reach out to the Athletic or Cheer Directors. What does my football player need?
Players need athletic cup, mouth guard, cleats, and girdle for the tackle players. We will provide helmets, flags, shorts, practice uniform and jersey. Additionally for tackle they will receive for their use, helmets, pads and pants. These have to be returned at the end of the season. What does my cheerleader need?
Cheerleaders will need briefs, white shoes, white no show socks, and navy bow. Leggings and bodysuits when it gets cold may also be needed. We will provide Poms, skirts and shells that will be returned at the end of the season. Where do I get spirit wear to support the team?
Spirit wear will be offered at games and through out the year in large buys. The funds raised support the organization operations like homecoming and U of M game. What’s Cheerfest?
Cheerfest is an indoor competitive cheer event where the squads will perform a pom and original cheer routine (flag only does a pom routine). We compete against other cheer squads inside and sometimes outside the SMYFA league. It is NOT required to participate, but this needs to be communicated early to the coaches because it is a bigger commitment than just sideline cheer.
